Humanities Internship Program

The Humanities Internship Program provides undergraduate students with the opportunity to develop employability skills, explore career options and integrate their academic learning in a professional setting through a meaningful work experience. Humanities internships are paid, part-time or full-time work terms of 4, 8, 12 or 16 consecutive months in duration.

Eligibility Requirements

To participate in the Humanities Internship Program, employers must:

 

  • Have been in existence for at least two years, and have at least 5+ employees
  • Offer a work location that is separate from the personal residence of any owner or employee
  • Have general liability insurance in the amount of $5 million (minimum)

 

In addition to the employer eligibility requirements, Humanities Internship Employers are required to abide by the McMaster University Work Integrated Learning Employer Policies and Agreement.

Internship Job Requirements

Remuneration

  • Must be paid, and no less than minimum wage

 

Location of work

  • The location adheres to current Public Health protocols
  • Employers require a working location (interns are not permitted to work in the personal residence of the employer, company staff or any individual affiliated with the organization; students will be able to work from their own personal residence)
  • Working locations outside of Canada must adhere to McMaster’s established policies and practices

 

Hours of work

  • Full-time internship – between 26 – 40 hours per week
  • Part-time internship – between 5 – 25 hours per week

 

Duration

  • Work term must begin in either September, January or May and may be 4, 8, 12 or 16 consecutive months in duration
  • Placements must run for a minimum of consecutive 12 weeks in duration

 

Health and Safety

  • Employers must ensure that students complete all mandatory health and safety training, any site-specific training, and are covered under the employer’s WSIB coverage (if applicable)
